Sasha, the drill was rotating in the WRONG DIRECTION with the drill bit, that's why you couldn't drill it out. Reverse the rotation. :D :D watch back at the video, you can see ;)

@@uncle_matula i missed that part, so i guess the non-diamond tipped bit could then potentially break through? still i did not realize ostrich eggs were that tough, when Messi was using it as his soccer ball in the house.

Кальций из скорлупы идёт на формирование костей страусенка. К моменту вылупления скорлупа уже не такая твердая. Плюс у них специальный шип на клюве.

At the zoo I worked at long ago, they used a syringe to draw air and press that into the hole in the egg to blow out the insides. Tip of syringe has to fit in the hole snugly or use a soft tube from syringe stuffed in the hole. I was surprised Sasha had the strength to blow that out by himself. Very strong lungs! I laff at all the noise Messi makes as he gallops around. I have seen some people use a Dremel tool with the diamond bit and carve designs in ratite shells like that, swirls, or flowers, or scenes - and make the bottom hole bigger to put small candle or LED lights inside. Then they set that on a wooden stand on table or mantle for soft lamp in the room.

It's the standard way of preserving the eggshell. It's called blowing the egg and it's nothing new. We did it in the 1950s as children in the US every Easter for decorating the eggs.

@@eranshachar9954 As you can tell from Sasha's red face and neck, you have to blow really forcefully and keep that force on until the contents break out the other hole. Conversely, you can keep the contents in by plugging only one of the holes with your finger and move it without spilling anything.
